Retention

Retention Length 4,100 Days
binary-icon Binary and Text Retention Access to over 120,000 newsgroups.

SunnyUsenet currently offers 4,100 days of retention, which is similar to Tweaknews, though not quite as much as our highly rated Eweka with 5944 days of retention with. The difference with SunnyUsenet is affordability.

Performance

Sunny has several Usenet plans with speeds ranging from 20 Mbps to unlimited Mbps. Save money by choosing the speed limited Sunny 20 or Sunny 60 plans, or select Sunny UNL to max out your speed.

Using the fastest available Internet connection, Google Fiber, to test the Sunny UNL plan, we regularly recorded download speeds of 90 to 110 Mbps. SunnyUsenet performed consistently well over a period of 5 days and at different times of the day.

SunnyUsenet stands out from other budget Usenet providers because there are no download limits. Even though some plans are speed limited, (either 20 or 60 Mbps), downloads remain uncapped.

SunnyUsenet offers between 30 and 40 connections, depending on your plan. The variety of packages makes SunnyUsenet accessible and versatile: pay for exactly the level of service you need.

One more thing: If you enable auto renew on your subscription, you’ll receive an additional 20 connections for free. That’s half again the number of connections on the unlimited package. Enabling auto renew is also the only way to receive a 7-day free trial.

Privacy and Security

SunnyUsenet meets our security standards with free SSL connections on all packages. By encrypting the data end-to-end, your activity stays private.

The company privacy policy states, “We do not monitor where you post, what you download or what you put in news articles that you post.”

For the highest level of safety and security, you should use a VPN. One downside of SunnyUsenet relative to other Usenet providers is that no plans come with a free VPN. Check out Tweaknews for a European provider that does include a free, unlimited VPN with the Ultimate + VPN package.

Pricing

SunnyUsenet offers the lowest prices of the top providers that we’ve reviewed. Purchase Usenet access for as little as €3,03 a month on the Sunny 20 plan. Even the top-tier, unlimited speed and unlimited download package is a very affordable, €6,23 per month for an annual plan.

Bottom Line

Consider Tweaknews or Eweka if you are looking for a Usenet provider with included newsreader software.

Still, SunnyUsenet makes newsreader software setup easy. When you purchase your SunnyUsenet plan, you’ll be provided with your username, password, number of connections, and port information. For assistance, just login to your account and click “My Sunny.” There you can access support documentation which provides screenshots and instructions for setup on Alt.binz, Grabit, Newsbin Pro, Newleecher, SABNzbd, Spotnet, Spotgrit, and Unison. In our tests, SunnyUsenet gave us quick customer support.

SunnyUsenet is a low-cost Usenet provider with respectable retention, unlimited download speed, and no gigabit allotment. If you want access to a European provider – even if you don’t have a European IP address – then SunnyUsenet is a great value.
